Chief Operating Officer
Lesley Hume was appointed to Cabinet Office Chief Operating Officer in 2016, after joining the Civil Service in 2008 to hold senior leadership roles as Director of cross Government IT Profession and Chief Information Officer, Executive Director of the Efficiency & Reform Group, and the Government Fraud, Error, Debt & Grants functional lead.
Her Chief Operating Office is responsible for ensuring the IT, Estates, Security and HR corporate services in Cabinet Office, runs efficiently and effectively, within its £45 million annual budget, to deliver projected benefit savings for the FEDG function of £6 billion to HMG by 2020.
Lesley’s leadership of the Cabinet Office HR function is creating a new and inclusive and diverse culture to engage its staff behind the Cabinet Office’s stated purpose of providing efficient and effective public services. Her functional digital /IT strategy uses agile project management to deliver digital transformation for Cabinet Office and its partner government departments. As estates management transfers to the external Government Property Agency, the Chief Operating Officer will retain responsibility for the agency’s performance.
Lesley was born and raised in Zimbabwe, and her career spans financial sector and oil and gas consultancy, Halliburton/Brown & Root, Atkins and Price Waterhouse Coopers.
