Head of Commercialism

Ken is the Head of Commercialism at Birmingham City Council (BCC), leading an organisation wide approach to embed a more business-like approach across service delivery and to support increased income generation to support the ongoing sustainability of core services. Ken has worked alongside key internal and external partners develop a range of successes including:
- Enabling Cityserve school meals service to win 3 national awards and return a surplus in excess of £2m pa and create a strategy for further growth beyond traditional markets
- Supporting the development of a commercial approach across the parks service
- Creating a property company to hold commercial assets deliver revenue and capital benefits
- Developing a commercial events company Unique Venues Birmingham in partnership with The Birmingham Repertory theatre
Before joining BCC Ken worked for Nottingham City Council for 10 years where he was central to the development of a successful commercial approach across a number of roles, including Commercialism Programme Manager and Acting Head of Transformation.
Outside of work Ken is married to Sarah and they have two young boys, Ben and Jude and is a passionate supporter of Derby County FC and Northampton Saints Rugby Club.
