NHS pay deal reached for 1.3m staff

After years of tight spending, over 1m NHS staff are in the process of being offered pay increases of at least 6.5% over the next three years – with the highest increases reaching 29% for certain roles.

The deal will cost over £4.2bn to implement and has been formally agreed by both ministers and union leaders. The next step will require staff to vote on the deal, which if successful will see pay backdated to April if agreed by summer.

The agreement covers all staff on the Agenda for Change contract – about 1.3m across the UK – which is the entire workforce with the exception of doctors, dentists and senior leaders.
