Mike Driver: Spearheading the Government Finance Function
Mike Driver has big plans for the finance function across Whitehall. He wants to organise it better, think more intelligently about its processes and introduce more collaboration.
Around 10,000 people across the whole Civil Service work in the finance function and Mike would like to corral them around a single vision and strategy. His vision is to put finance at the heart of decision making. Driving the agenda, not just keeping score.
Mike Driver is both architect and deliverer of financial reform across Government. He is committed to managing the public purse, whilst continuing to drive improvements across finance to support front line services.
Over the past seven years in the face of financial challenges the public sector has achieved tremendous things in maintaining frontline services while taking tough decisions. The UK’s public finances have reached a turning point this year, with borrowing down and the first sustained fall in debt for 17 years. The aim now is to ensure it continues to fall with the support and guidance of the function.
Mike’s vision and future priorities for the Government Finance’s function can broadly be broken down to the following:
- Putting finance at the Heart of Decision Making
- Engagement, collaboration and integration to deliver more efficient public services
- The outlook for the future – potential pitfalls and opportunities for the years to come
If you would like to know more about the goals of the Government Finance Function, you can hear directly from Mike himself at the Public Sector Show on 26th June, at ExCel London.
