Government facing Brexit recruitment challenge
A report produced by the Public Accounts Committee expresses concern that many government departments are facing some difficult choices as they deal with mounting pressures of Brexit.
Government departments already have their hands full besides Brexit and need to halt some projects to make resources available for Brexit projects, the report says. At least 313 areas of Brexit related work have been identified, and it is critical that the civil service has the right people, equipped with the correct skills and resources to manage exiting the European Union (EU). However, the process of allocating the necessary resources has been too slow. The Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) and the Cabinet Office have not created a robust enough plan to find and recruit the people and skills needed to deliver this transition quickly.
