19m cyber attacks a year against councils
A recent investigation has revealed that local councils have been the focus of over 98 million cyber attacks in the last five years. According to the report from campaign group Big Brother Watch, 29% of councils had experienced at least one security breach between 2013 and 2017. The report also found the following:
- 75% of local authorities do not provide mandatory cyber security training to staff
- Out of 25 councils who experienced a cyber security breach, 56% failed to report the incident
