YPO transforms Ofgem Office Space
Ofgem is the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets and is a non-ministerial government department and an independent National Regulatory Authority, recognised by EU Directives. The organisation’s objectives are to protect the interests of existing and future electricity and gas consumers.
Ofgem came to YPO to look for a procurement solution for the installation and aftercare for a major fit-out of its Glasgow office. The organisation wanted to update its office furniture, and reduce the amount of space taken up by existing furniture, to create a much more pleasurable workspace environment for staff, all while adhering to central government’s office accommodation goals.
The project took place on the third floor of Commonwealth House in Glasgow, and will eventually allow Ofgem to increase efficiencies by re-locating all Glasgow based staff to a single location. The overall objective was to provide all Ofgem staff with a modern, smart, agile working environment.
Ofgem’s Head of Procurement Geoff Hopper said: “The challenge was finding an EU compliant way to procure office furniture, in a tight time frame – YPO came to our rescue!”
The solution YPO was able to offer two framework solutions for Ofgem to procure office desking and tables as well as seating. YPO then ran a mini-competition for Ofgem to find a supplier that could provide and install furniture including desking, storage, tables, seating and breakout/meeting furniture and pods.
The competition was run between a number of suppliers and Senator Group – the largest British manufacturer of business furniture for corporate, office, public sector, hospitality and retail – was awarded the contract.
Ofgem’s Head of Building Services, Kim Pivett said: “Our experience with Senator during the whole process of our major fitout was above our expectations.
We found that once we had identified our general requirements, Senator ensured that we had access to either their showroom or factory to see the furniture at first-hand that we were procuring. We also spent an afternoon with them which allowed us to finalise the product selection with confidence. Delivery and fit-out were timely and without delay and the aftercare was exceptional, with the area manager making a personal site visit. Snagging was completed without fuss.”
